You might be curious... Exactly who or what is the Workroom Cadre? The definition of cadre is "a small group of people specially trained for a particular purpose or profession" and that is exactly what we will bring to you with The Workroom Cadre regional programs. These training seminars will be led by talented Workroom Tech teachers with the experience and skills to help you succeed.
The Workroom Cadre: Perfecting Well-Behaved Draperies and Shades
Join workroom experts Jessie Lee Miller and Angie Wewel for a day of learning and professional growth on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Savannah, GA. This seminar will equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perfect your custom soft window covering projects.
This full day seminar was inspired by the classes that Jessie Lee and Angie taught at the 2024 Custom Workroom Conference. Their sold-out classes “The Science Behind Well-Behaved Draperies” and “A French Method for Blackout Roman Shades” were extremely popular! This full-day seminar allows the time needed for detailed information about fabricating draperies and shades with a smaller group in a retreat setting. You will be inspired by how Jessie Lee and Angie have used a combination of science, research, sewing skills, and experience, to develop the fabrication methods used in their own workroom businesses.
Jessie Lee will show how fabric substrates, fiber blends, and the weave of the textile can all impact drapery behavior. She’ll cover research-based methods for adding structure, reducing growth/shrinkage of fabrics, and controlling flare, as well as the many benefits of stabilization. You will see fabrication methods for tabling multiple widths, drapery headings and pleating tips.
Angie has perfected a method for blackout roman shades that improved the quality and look of her shades, reduced fabrication time, and increased her profits. She will cover what linings and interlinings are needed to achieve French blackout; how ribs improve the overall function of the shade; the critical relationship between thread, rings and pinholes of light; when and how to use low-bulk side hems; calculating vertical and horizontal ring spacing; folding to patter;n and tips for working on multi-width shade projects.
This is a professional level program for workroom business owners, fabricators, or interior designers who would like to have a better understanding of workroom methods. Resources will be shared for materials, supplies, components, headrails, and hardware from a variety of manufacturers and industry suppliers, many who sell to-the-trade only.
