Introduction to Reupholstery

Would you like to learn more about reupholstery so that you can refresh your own furniture or explore reupholstery as a business?

 

Reupholsery is a rewarding and useful skill.  In this 2-day class, you will learn how to approach reupholstery projects with confidence, and the tools and supplies needed to complete a project with professional results.  

 

This class includes: 

A review of the most common upholstery tools (hand tools, button press, and pneumatic staple gun and air compressor)

Industrial machines

Supplies (foam, dacron, welt cord, springs, webbing, burlap, adhesives, thread, gimp, tacks, etc.) 

How to make the upholstery sawhorses

Terms and upholstery lingo

Basics of figuring yardage and completing a cut plan

How to look for a quality piece to reupholster

Demonstation of tear down and how to evaluate what needs to be replaced.

 

Students will complete small, sample projects to learn fundamental techniques like covering welt cord, covered buttons, wrapping foam with dacron, the perfect upholstery corner, how to ease around curves, relief cuts, basic button tufting, and using tack strip.

 

Note: 

Students are invited to bring a chair for learning purposes (not required) to review with the instructor for advice and ideas.  Students will not reupholster a chair in this class.

  • There is a $75 cancellation fee for any class cancelled 3 weeks prior to the class start date.  There are no refunds for classes cancelled 3 weeks or less before the class start date but the class fee can be used for a future class, space permitting.
