In this episode of The Sew Much More Podcast: 30 Minutes with Workroom Tech, Ceil DiGuglielmo and Susan Woodcock follow up with the results from the 2024 Pick-A-Project Challenge.
You can listen to this episode of the podcast here:
First to Finish: Kate Winton
Kate shared that she had used her old workbag for over 30 years. This was her first time sewing with leather.
Biggest Challenge: Nancy Hogan
Nancy called this a "very ridiculously ambitious challenge". She slipcovered BOTH of her family room sofas with all new foam for seat and back cushions too!
Biggest Challenge - Runner Up: Callie Nelsen
Callie made three roman shades side-by-side using three different blackout methods and three different cordless lift systems.
An Oldie But A Goodie: Antoinette Van Speyk
Antoinette's ten year old deck umbrella was showing its age, but the frame was still in perfect condition. For the past two summers she planned to make a new one. She used the old umbrella fabric as a template.
I would put that in my house: Greer Woollcott
Greer chose this project because she would like to to offer this service to customers, and to add it to her portfolio - plus, she needed a headboard! "Woohoo! Feels great to get it done and can't wait to see it hung in place to complete my bedroom”!
Love it! Why didn’t I try this sooner? Amy Sadera
Amy challenged herselt to build her first cornice board, her first motorized Roman shade and her first large shade (80” wide). Amy shared that, "there is VERY little light that comes through, so our sleep has improved".
“Love it! - Why Didn’t I do this Sooner? Runner Up: Diana Nolan
Diana brought new life to an old, worn chair with her first upholstery project. She shared that she thought about abandoning the project in the beginning, but then suddenly it all came together. "I am happy with the finished project but will probably stick with just basic upholstery projects".
It's Ugly But I Learned A Lot: Diane Horne
Definitely not ugly! Diane didn't feel confident in her first attempt making lined and interlined, pleated, traversing draperies. She gave herself a score of 3.5 out of 7 - but learned a lot! She then reworked the draperies and felt better about the results - giving herself a 5.5 score. We all agreed that she did a great job and considering the fabric was reused from old Ikea panels - she made a big improvement.
More projects completed this year include...
Lampshades by Betsey Reigle. Diamond Tufting by Monica Rhodes
Bolster pillow by Nancy Sargent. Draperies and loveseat by Susan Sifakis.
Reverse mounted shades with valance by Celeste Breen. Snowman by Laura Nelson
Draperis with leather tabs by Nancy Letts. Office chair slipcover by Laurie Medford
