Workroom Tech was a dream that became a reality once we found the right location. Tryon, NC is a special place and we wanted the students at Workroom Tech to enjoy the small town atmosphere while visiting and taking classes. First we met with Jamie Carpenter, Executive Director of the Tryon Downtown Development Association. Once we explained to Jamie what we wanted to do (what we do is a little unusual!) she was very enthusiastic and knew the perfect place, which just happened to be next door to her office. She quickly introduced us to the building owner and we explained to him what we wanted to do (again, it's not something people are expecting!). He was impressed, and curious and loved the idea. We immediately began to imagine this space which was formerly Kyoto's restaurant and bar, filled with worktables and industrial machines.
It's a great location for many reasons.
1) There is a back entrance directly into our space with a ramp, loading dock and plenty of parking.
2) Walk upstairs and you are street level and right in the center of town with shops, restaurants, galleries and even an old fashioned movie theater.
3) Our neighbors will not be disturbed by sewing, stapling and laughter.
4) It's less than 2 miles from our home.
Here's a few photos of how the space looked when we first visited. Be sure to visit the blog to see the deconstruction and reconstruction as Kyoto's restaurant and bar is transformed into Workroom Tech! Thank you for stopping by,
Susan Woodcock
Workroom Tech is located on the lower level at the "Shops of Tryon".
The back entrance off of Powell Street with plenty of parking.
When you enter "The Shops of Tryon" from Trade Street, come on downstairs to Workroom Tech.
A former restaurant and bar. We will keep the bar and use it as a conference area for viewing presentations and as a place to gather and socialize.
This area will have sewing machines and worktables.
There are three large windows for lots of natural light. Yes, we need window treatments!
